As is Indiana in August, it has been brutally humid lately. I know you might think Indiana avoids humidity, but from working in hospitality for nearly eight years and meeting people from all over the country and world, they could be shocked at the temps and other assorted weather goodies Indy has in store. Don't get me wrong, I know others have it just as bad or even worse.... but the past two weeks have been rough for the morning and late morning long runs. But I needed these runs, they build character right?
I can tell you they do. I can also tell you at mile 4 I was tempted to turn around and call it an 8 mile run. But that's not why I'm doing this. I understand that sometimes you have 'bad runs' and injuries can even hamper your ability, but I'm bouncing back from several set backs this year, and today I felt more than capable of putting one foot in front of the other. It came down to the fact that it was me against the weather, and if I bailed and only put in 8 miles I would have been extremely upset with myself later. And so I pushed on... Sure my mile average wasn't great, but I did 12.80 miles and I'm happy with that. It put me at a good amount of miles for the weekend and for wrapping up August. I have the opportunity for 3-4 more runs this week with my schedule being what it is, and I plan to get them all in.
